I’ve been lucky so far in my life (frantically finds a bit of wood to touch) and have only needed Accident & Emergency treatments for my various sporting injuries. I’ve gained a little more experience recently when my son was born. When given the opportunity I jumped at the chance to go and see a dedicated private hospital.

The Circle, Bath is local to us here at Lesson Moore, and straight away I could see the differences.

Firstly, the parking…. It was free! For anyone that has to spend lengths of time in NHS Hospital car parks, you’ll know that it can very quickly become expensive. Little touches like this help the whole experience to be less stressful.

When you walk into the main building, you’re greeted by a sight that would look more akin to a high-end hotel than a hospital. When speaking to the Circle’s Victoria Adams she explained that everything had been designed to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. The large draped lights in the main hall draw people to them so they don’t feel the need to congregate by the walls. The whole downstairs encourages you to “flow” through it.

If you were expecting the usual NHS hospital style food, your preconceptions would once again be blown away. The chef in charge of putting the menus together is Michelin star trained and the food on display had a quality look (and smell!) to it.

Staying overnight in a Hospital is never going to be anyone’s dream, but The Circle have made the experience as comfortable as possible. With comfy beds, en-suite bathrooms, flat screen TV’s, complimentary Wi-Fi. It carries on the theme of luxury as well as practicality. Each room also has a fold out sofa bed, meaning that you can have a loved one stay with you when you need them the most.

The lower floor features post-procedure recovery beds for patients and are designed with separate corridors to avoid in-patients being moved through public facing areas. Privacy and dignity are protected during and after treatment.

The cleanliness of the hospital was remarkable. Having recently been to a very busy NHS hospital, I could see the difference. There was no litter inside or out and every floor, table and sill was dust and grime free. There have been no cases of hospital-acquired infections within the hospital.

It was also noticeably cooler than the stereotypically hot and stuffy NHS hospitals.

Speed is of the essence. If you have something wrong, you want it sorted quickly and efficiently. This is why most consultations can be scheduled within 72 hours and can be fitted in around the patient’s other commitments. The patients are also seen by the same consultant every time, which reassures the clients and ensures a high level of care and quality.

Thanks to Victoria Adams and everyone at The Circle, Bath for their time on the day.
